First Monthly Report Shows Steady Growth
The Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) published its first monthly market performance report on October 27, 2026, covering the period from the market’s launch on July 13 to September 30. The document provides the first official look at revenue, wagering volumes, and operator activity for Canada’s newest regulated online gambling province.
In September 2026, the market generated C$56.6 million in Non-Adjusted Gross Gaming Revenue (NAGGR), a 30.7% increase from the C$43.3 million recorded in August. Players wagered a total of C$1.28 billion (C$1,277.4 million) during the month. Dan Keene, chief executive of the AiGC, stated that early results indicate Albertans value the strong oversight and greater accountability offered by the regulated market.
Operator and Player Base Expansion
Participation in the market has grown steadily since the July launch. There were 16 active operators in July, rising to 20 in August and reaching 24 in September. Active player accounts followed a similar trajectory, increasing from 226,959 in July to 314,091 in August, and reaching 388,585 in September. This represents a 23.7% jump in active accounts from August to September.
The average revenue per active player account in September was C$146. The AiGC registry currently lists 51 sites, although not all were active during the reporting period. Major operators live at launch included bet365, BetVictor, FanDuel (a Flutter brand), and BetMGM, a joint venture between Entain and MGM Resorts. Betway, owned by Super Group, was added to the registry on September 28, 2026. 88 (an evoke brand) went live in October 2026, though its Q3 revenue fell by 7%.
Revenue Breakdown by Product
Casino games dominated revenue, accounting for 75.6% of September’s NAGGR, or C$42.8 million. Sports and event betting contributed 19.5%, totaling C$11.1 million, while live casino made up the remaining 4.9%, or C$2.8 million.
Sports and event betting saw significant growth, with NAGGR more than doubling from C$5.2 million in August to C$11.1 million in September. Wagers on betting products reached C$152.7 million in September. The operator margin for betting stakes was 7.3% in September, compared to 4.6% in August, indicating a higher take rate on betting volumes as the month progressed.
Regulatory Framework and Supplier Approvals
The market is regulated by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC). The AGLC charges a one-time application fee of C$50,000 and an annual registration fee of C$150,000 per site. Revenue sharing rules allocate 2% of gross gaming revenue to First Nations and 1% to social responsibility programs. Of the remaining net revenue, operators retain 80%, while the government receives 20%.
Supplier approvals have also expanded since launch. Greentube, 1X2 Network, and Pragmatic Play were live on launch day, July 13. Play’n GO, Gaming Corps, and EveryMatrix received AGLC supplier approvals in May 2026. Games Global and Delasport received AGLC registrations in September 2026. Super Group has five brands on the registry: Betway, Jackpot City, Spin Casino, Ruby Fortune, and Royal Vegas. SkillOnNet has three brands listed: PlayOJO, SpinGenie, and Slots Magic.
The next market report is scheduled for release in the third week of November 2026.
Why It Matters
The report provides the first verified baseline for Alberta's new regulated online gambling market, confirming that casino games drive the majority of revenue while sports betting is growing rapidly. With 24 active operators and a defined fee structure, the data establishes the competitive landscape and financial viability for existing and potential market participants. The revenue split between operators and the government sets the precedent for how this market will fund public programs and sustain industry growth.
