Illegal 'Tesco Slots' Casino Uses Supermarket Branding to Target UK Players

Brand Impersonation on Social Media

An illegal online casino operating under the name “Tesco Slots” has used the UK supermarket giant’s red-and-blue branding to promote its services on Meta’s Facebook platform. The site falsely claims to be an official Tesco casino, leveraging the retailer’s reputation to target British players.

According to the source material, the “Tesco Slots” website presents itself as a legitimate extension of the supermarket’s loyalty ecosystem. Text on the site states: “Tesco Slots brings the UK’s most trusted supermarket brand to online casino. Earn rewards on every spin, the same way you earn Clubcard points on your weekly shop.” The operation offers new accounts a £1,500 welcome bonus plus 250 free spins, a standard promotional structure for online slots products.

The site also makes specific claims regarding payment methods, stating that it accepts Tesco-exclusive payment infrastructure, including Tesco debit cards, Tesco Bank, and Tesco Mobile. Additionally, the site notes in its copy that it takes debit cards only, referencing the UK ban on credit cards for online gambling that took effect in April 2020.

Regulatory Status and Affiliate Links

Despite its aggressive marketing, the “Tesco Slots” entity does not appear to be a registered operator. The website claims to be licensed by the Curaçao Gambling Authority (CGA), yet no such entity is registered on the regulator’s official list. The site’s Terms and Conditions page, which would typically outline legal responsibilities, displays a blank white screen with the text “Silence is golden” in the top left corner.

Investigation into the site’s technical infrastructure reveals that all links on the “Tesco Slots” website redirect to a URL containing the string ‘win.101nightwin’ along with the parameter ‘id=7557’. An SEO expert noted that this URL structure most likely indicates an affiliate link, suggesting the site may be a front for driving traffic to another operator.

Research identified an actual casino named NightWin operating on a Curaçao licence. The legal entity behind NightWin is Flybergom B.V. According to regulatory records, Flybergom B.V. received its licence in September 2025. However, as of 26 March 2026, the licence has been put under assessment, rendering it inactive. The connection between the “Tesco Slots” front and the NightWin domain suggests a potential attempt to leverage an existing, albeit currently suspended, license framework.

Broader Trend of Digital Takeovers

The “Tesco Slots” operation is part of a broader trend in which illegal gambling operators hijack UK brands and vulnerable websites to distribute promotional content. This trend has prompted significant regulatory and governmental attention in the UK.

Other institutions have recently experienced similar digital vulnerabilities. The NHS was targeted via a cybersecurity weakness in its abandoned subsidiary website, “My Therappy.” That site, abandoned in 2020 but retaining NHS messaging, became a vector for unauthorized content. In August 2026, the Scottish Border Council experienced a similar attack due to outdated systems. Additionally, in June 2026, the Old Catton Parish Council displayed advertisements for an illegal Indonesian casino. The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) has also been identified as a previous victim of such cyber intrusions.

In response to these challenges, the UK government formed the Illegal Gambling Taskforce at the start of 2026. The taskforce was established by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport with the goal of reducing the negative impacts of illegal gambling in the UK.

The Advertisement Standards Authority (ASA) stated that the taskforce does not have independent enforcement powers but aims to bring together relevant organizations to identify solutions. In relation to advertising, the goal is to coordinate regulators, the gambling industry, and major online platforms, including Meta, to tackle the online advertising of illegal gambling. The ASA noted that while the Gambling Commission is the primary regulator for illegal gambling advertising, the ASA supports the Commission through this collaborative effort, reflecting a commitment to “collective ad regulation” in the online space.

Why It Matters

This incident demonstrates how illegal operators exploit brand trust and social media platforms to circumvent UK gambling regulations. The use of affiliate links to route traffic to inactive or unlicensed entities complicates consumer protection and enforcement efforts. For UK players, the risk of engaging with unregulated slots products increases when promotional content mimics legitimate retail brands. The formation of the Illegal Gambling Taskforce signals a shift toward multi-agency collaboration to address these digital vulnerabilities.
